Hostesses
Ryuji has two hostesses that he can impress and help. At Shine, he has Sakura Ai who loves cosplaying and teasing him. She's an ambitious woman that dreams of being an Idol. At Jewel, he can impress the twenty year old health nut, Sakuragi Hina. She's big on business and dreams of being a high-powered lady CEO. When their hearts are maxed and their substories completed, they will join Ryuji as partners in the Quarantine.
Interestingly enough, Ryuji is able to help both women overcome their problems. He is able to weasel his way into their hearts as by the end of their substories they're pretty much in love with him. Over the course of his visits, he admits that he likes to drink in fun places so hostess clubs are great for him. He also admits to being a veteran when it comes to the hostess club scene. As well he should, since his original entrance is in a cabaret. What I find most interesting is his ideology on the girls at the club. He'll drink with anyone, he states he's not picky becuase if he doesn't like the girl he can just have her switched. Much later, he admits to Ai that he will try anything once. I believe he is quite opened to trying new things and meeting new people but he has a hard time with it becuase of his large size and scowl.
Ryuji knows that he is intimidating. He often asks the girls if they're afraid of him but they always alleviate his concerns. For Ai's part she thinks he's cool because she thinks he's cosplaying. For Hina, I think she finds comfort in his large stature - I think she feels safe to be around him.
Dream, while visiting hostess clubs Ryuji reveals that he believes dreams are just fine but one must constantly be working towards them. He promises Hina that he will keep working towards his goals and that she should too. In a small interaction with Erika at Shine, he notes that his takoyaki is made Osakan and that he knows he cannot please everyone. He is unyielding in the idea and laughs saying, "It's my way or bust!"
