Summary: As an avid reader, Rowen stays up late every night to finish a book. His friends are starting to wonder if he realizes how things work.

Alarm Clock

Rowen flipped the pale pages; black letters danced across his vision, and pushed his lips up towards his ears. He pushed the shiver in his shoulders down to his spine and rolled onto his side with a yawn. The bright red numbers of his alarm clock screamed with an annoying BEEP, BEEP, BEEP! He read another line, but the buzzing refused to stop. Another line, still screaming. Another line, maybe he ought to push snooze. He sat up and set his late night companion onto his lap, put his finger at the start of the sentence and reached over with his free hand. The red numbers faded into the black abyss. Snooze would not suffice; it would just interrupt him again. He went back to his book; his finger ran across the pages, he yawned again. He gave a groan as the sun peeked through the window.

Around one, he climbed out of bed, showered, and went downstairs. His book held steady in his hand as he read a line, took a step, read a line, stepped to the side for Kento, read a line.

"Good morning starshine," Ryo said with a laugh. "Have another late night?"

"It's only morning," Rowen said as he stopped on the last step. He turned around and started back up. Kento blocked his path.

"It's afternoon, we just sent Kento to get you," Sage said with a sigh.

"How after noon are we talking," the blue haired boy said with a yawn.

"About an hour," the blonde said with a shrug. "Why do you bother with an alarm clock if you just turn it off?"

"It's still early," he said more to himself. Kento refused to move. "You heard that, huh," Rowen's mouth opened and closed and he sighed has he pushed the covers of his book together.

"You let it ring for five minutes," his companions said. "The neighbors probably heard it!"

"It wouldn't hurt to turn the volume down," Kento said with a nod.

"Then I won't hear it and there'll be no point," Rowen said as he sat at the table.

"There's no point anyways," Ryo said with a moan. "You keep turning it off!"

"There's no reasoning with him," Sage said. "Just let it go."

"His alarm goes off first," Kento said with a shake of his head. "I might be able to forgive him if he actually got outta bed for once."

"I turn the alarm off so I know what time it is," Rowen said with a shrug. "Once it goes off, I know the sun will be rising, this way I know I can turn off the lamp." He opened his book and started on the pages again. He turned the page, his smile turning upwards despite the others scolding him.

"You're supposed to use it to wake yourself up!" "You can see when the sun comes up; you don't need an alarm for that!" "You can't create new uses for alarm clocks, it's insulting!"

End - maybe someone should have a talk with him?
