Warnings: Rowen-obliviousness, Kento-panic, are you kitten me right, meow?
Summary: Kento and Rowen have been friends for years. For this reason, Kento is pretty much the only person that can tolerate him for long amounts of time. When a couple of ladies start talking to them, Kento can't see how Rowen can't see what's up.

Missed Opportunity

Rowen turned the page of the newest book in his favorite collection about a police officer that used supernatural senses to solve murders. Although he didn't believe in all of the powers the man had, Rowen enjoyed reading the clues and foreshadowing to figure out who had committed the crimes long before the detective had. Kento sat across from him as he looked through the menu; he noticed that Rowen was too absorbed in his book to look over something as tedious as a menu of delicious foods.

When the waiter came back with drinks, Kento ordered for both. The pages shuffled by as Rowen continued his reading. Hardrock pushed the glass closer to his friend and as if it was merely muscle memory Rowen reached over, drank it all and put the cup back down. Kento pushed a chuckle into his throat and asked for a refill. He also ordered some coffee. At this Rowen looked up.

"Thank you," he said before he turned back to the cream colored pages.

"I take pretty damn good care of you," Kento said despite the fact that the page only turned in response. "I better be the reason you have unreasonable expectations of women."

"Yes," Rowen said with nod.

"Man, you don't even know what I said," Kento said as he puffed out his chest!

"You said that you take good care of me. I agree you're great at it. You also said that you better be the reason I have unreasonable expectations of women," Strata said as turned the page.

"Fine," Kento said with a sigh. "But you don't know what I mean!"

"There's something to understand here," Rowen said as he looked up from his book and smiled.

"Never mind, just go back to your stupid book," Kento said with a huff as he accepted his food from the waiter.

"Will do," Rowen gave a nod and moved only a little as Kento put down the plate for him. He heard Kento apologize for his behavior and turned the page.

Kento drew a breath and shook his hands in the air as he tried to determine whether or not he should let it go or put his hands around Rowen's neck. When some very cute girls their age walked by Kento focused on watching them instead. After a few moments they came over to the table and started to chat.

"Good afternoon ladies," Kento said with the biggest and friendliest smile he could manage.

One had dark hair and deep green eyes; she wore a light green sun dress. The other had brunette hair with blonde tips; her blue eyes sparkled in the sunlight. She wore a tank top and shorts. They chatted about the weather, what they were eating, and what they had planned to do for the day. The green eyed girl turned towards Rowen.

"Is your book any good?"

"It's the fourth in the series. The detective is currently trying to solve a big case that looks connected to the first. He doesn't know it yet, but the pieces are there," Rowen said as he turned the page.

"You like detective stories," she said.

"I like solving things, that's why I like this one. The clues are a little deeper. If I can just finish this chapter, I'll be in a really good place," he said.

"What else do you like," she said as she tried to get him more into the conversation.

The flick of a page was her only reply. She went back to talking to Kento and her friend for a moment.

"Are you going with your friend to the park," she said with a light smile.

"Only if he drags me out there," Rowen said. "He probably will after he makes me eat." At this point, he took a bite of the burger before him and set it back down. He downed half of the soda and then one fourth of the coffee.

"It's a nice day to go to the park, it might be fun to go together, since you guys seem to know the area better."

Kento nodded and let out a laugh, "Yeah, great idea!"

"Kento thinks so too," Strata said as he narrowed his eyes across a passage he'd already read. "Ryo would probably like to go to the park." The paper slid between his thumb and forefinger.

After several more failed attempts at garnering the blue haired boy's gaze, the two girls left. Kento gave a low and unamused sigh as he slid back into his chair and crossed his arms. His mouth opened and closed several times. Rowen took a bite of his burger but the frown on his friends face stayed. Rowen finished both drinks but Kento's frown lingered. He ate all of his fries, the sighs still came. Finally, Rowen put down the book and ate the rest of his lunch. The frown on Kento's face remained. His arms crossed with even more tension. Rowen looked at the book and then back at Kento. He replayed the last few minutes in his mind.

"Oh! Was she flirting with me," Rowen said after he focused on the woman who had been so focused on him.

"Dude," Kento said as the frown and tension left his body. "Sometimes the way your brain works scares me."
