Parasite Eve follows the journey of Aya Brea. While attending an opera the audience begins to spontaneously combust. For some reason, Aya is immune. Later, we find out that Aya's mitochondria are special and that through her enhanced mitochondria she is the only one that can stop the Parasite Queen, Eve. After that in Parasite Eve 2, Aya's DNA is used to create Neo-mitochondria creatures (NMC) as well as a clone, Eve. This is where we will focus, in Dryfield, in a rundown motel. I won't even focus on the boring stuff like Aya having to restore power to the place or how she has to figure out what is going on with her mitochondria in the God-forsaken desert. I'm going to focus on the man she meets there.
Kyle and Aya meet fairly early in Parasite Eve 2. After Aya defeats all the NMC around the tower near her room, Kyle calls out to her. He insists that he would have helped her but didn't want to shoot her by mistake. Aya saved Kyle's life as he was unable to defeat the NMC by himself. I like to think of this as Aya saving her prince(ss). I might even say that Kyle liked being rescued. Kyle insists that he is a private investigator and that he's doing research on Dryfield. There are a few times where Aya and Kyle actually work together, in which she ultimately gets one of his guns.
Kyle is clearly interested and flirts with her. Aya, who often finds men to be troublesome, doesn't put up with his flirtation or fickle behavior. When she catches him drinking at the bar, she insists that he has to pay for it despite there being no one to accept the money. Kyle assures her that he will. I genuinely believe that he didn't. He and Aya investigate much of the motel and the shelter on the outskirts. She prevents him from shooting Eve because Eve is still human. Kyle agrees only because he trusts and believes Aya. As the game progresses Aya and Kyle are pulled towards each other only to be pulled apart. (I for one was sad to lose the extra gun and while I acquired Kyle's gun it wasn't the same as him being there.)
At the end, it is revealed that Kyle works for the assassin trying to kill Aya and Eve. Kyle shoots Aya in the shoulder (dude, she's not going to marry you if you do stuff like that)! He then shoots the assassin in the face and tells him that if he ever tries to hurt Aya or Eve, he'll have to deal with him. Ultimately, Kyle weighed the options of who was better to side with. He chose Aya because he was crazy about her. I believe that he knew that Aya would heal quickly from the shoulder wound. Sure, it would anger her, but I believe that he had to make a choice that would buy him enough time to assist Aya even if it meant to hurt her. He had to choose the lesser of two evils, in which he might be able to make it up to Aya later. When the satellite attacks the shelter, Aya wants to run over to Kyle to assist him. He tells her that it blasted his clothes off and that she's welcome to come assist him. Aya believes he'll be fine and leaves to help Eve. In truth, Kyle had been injured and lost his leg. I feel like he didn't want Aya to see him hurt and that he just pulled out what he thought would be his best lines. He knew how Aya would react and that allowed him to save face one last time. In the good ending, Kyle returns a year later.
In 3rd Birthday Parasite Eve, Kyle and Aya are getting married. I like to believe that Aya made him devote a lot of time to apologies and making up for the crap he pulled. He serves as a High-Born, part of Aya's memories to keep her alive. After the timelines are straightened out and Aya sacrifices herself so that Eve can live, Eve decides she wants to give Aya her wedding. As she stands there in Aya's body in her dress Kyle asks her what she's doing. Kyle immediately recognizes that Eve is not Aya. He takes the ring from Eve and tells her that he's going to find Eternity. He's going to find Aya. For me, what solidifies their relationship is the fact that Kyle and Aya trust each other. They recognize and accept all of the good and bad parts of each other. Aya doesn't put up with Kyle and Kyle knows when something is wrong with Aya.
Kyle's desire to find Eternity is the reason I chose the title Promising Eternity. I feel that for everything Kyle and Aya were, together they were eternal. I particularly love the couple because Kyle doesn't change for Aya. He's still Kyle. Aya accepts that. I love that Aya doesn't change for Kyle, she's still Aya. They have an understanding that shows they are dynamic and flexible. There are no absolutes, there's give and take, there's love and understanding. It's probably why they're my favorite couples.
