Epic Triad
The Epic triad is made of three parts:
- The Hero (Aya Brea)
- The Sage (Eve – Encompassing Maya and Melissa Pearce)
- The Benign Force (Mitochondria)
Although Aya's sage is different than most, I would go so far as to say that Melissa Pearce (the new Eve in Parasite Eve) could also have been her sage, as unwilling as it might have been. Originally, Aya's sister Maya appears and Aya follows her. Aya does not get specific information as most might from the sage character. She is left to figure out her Parasite Energy abilities by herself. But Aya's curiosity leads her to follow the mysterious little girl into deeper parts of the buildings she is exploring. Throughout Parasite Eve Aya also has flashbacks of two little girls in a hospital room. It is revealed this is her mitochondria remembering an incident from her past that she had long forgotten.
The benign force is something that is present in both characters and actually in every person. The problem with mitochondria is evolution that threatens to take over humankind. Mitochondria itself is neither good nor evil, but presents a problem when Melissa (now Eve) tried to take over normal mitochondria and destroy humans so that superior creatures can take over the world. Aya shows what good can be done with mitochondria. On the other hand, we see what Melissa can do with her parasite energy and it is usually harmful. However it is also noted that both Aya and Melissa's abilities stem from Maya, as she was the "Eve" before Melissa.
