The Sage - Eve

The guide
The Sage: Maya Brea/EveThis encompasses Maya and Melissa Pearce as Aya is led to follow them. She remembers key elements of her past doing so, and it is her connection to Maya (her eye) that gave her the parasite abilities in the first place. In following Maya throughout the places in each area Aya gets closer to her goal of finding and stopping Melissa. Since Maya was the Eve before Melissa, I have included both here. Aya sees Maya leading her to where she needs to go, but it would also be true to say that since Melissa becomes the new Eve that it might be that she is unconsciously drawing Aya to her because they both share Maya's mitochondria. The sage generally dies in the story but still leads the hero spiritually (Kemp 2011), before the events of the story, Maya has already passed away and it could be argued that her spirit is what guides Aya to Melissa.

The Sidekick - Gabrielle Monsigny

Right hand man, support, and ear for the hero.
The Sidekick: Gabrielle MonsignyIn 3rd Birthday Gabrielle offered an ear of support and behaved as a big sister to Aya. Gabrielle was ranked as the top sniper among the group and taught Aya how to handle a sniper rifle. When Aya really needed help she had no problem calling out for Gabrielle. In the mission that Gabriell appears Aya says "Gabrielle, I need you" before she overdrives and takes control of the other woman's body. Gabrielle often teases Aya but tends to offer more support than anything. Even when Aya has to fight Gabrielle (because she's turned into a twisted), the older woman offers nothing but support, telling her not to worry, to just do what she needs too. Before Gabrielle disappears she tries to shoot Hyde but is unable to contain her presence due to her defeat and the past changing (Toriyama 2010).

The Nemesis - Eve/The Ultimate Being

The antagonist and those who stand in the way of the hero
In the first game, Aya's nemesis is easily Eve (her opposite) and the Ultimate being that Eve is trying to give birth too. In the second, Eve is now her clone and sister but the ultimate being is being bred from Aya's mitochondria. Once more Aya fights and defeats it saving humanity.

The Love Interest - Kyle Madigan

Devoted to the hero but unable to be together
The Rebel and Love Interest: Kyle Madigan Kyle first appears in Parasite Eve II. When Aya first meets him, he's stuck up on the water tower. She saves him and he says he'd have helped her but he didn't want to shoot her by mistake. Aya doesn't put up with this sarcastic or flaky sort of behvior, scolding him for not paying for drinks in Dryfield. When the satellite attacks the compound near Dryfield, Kyle loses his leg. He tells Aya that the blast blew of his clothes and that she should come over and take a peek. She denies him and runs out of the room. Kyle mentions he's never been that crazy about a girl before (Hirata 1999). In 3rd Birthday Aya and Kyle are getting married. Their wedding is attacked by military agents and Kyle is killed at the altar. When Aya and Eve change the past, Kyle survives but Aya does not. He takes the wedding band from Eve and leaves the church in search of Eternity (Toriyama 2010).

The Adoptive Family - NYPD, MIST, CTI, Eve, Kyle

A place to call home, and usually the reason for the journey
Aya's family ranges depending on the game. In the first game, she had the NYPD. In the second she had MIST. At the end of the second game Rupert helped Aya and Eve by making a background for Eve that allowed her to live as Aya's younger sister. Later Kyle joins the two Brea women and they live together as a family. Aya and Kyle are slated to be married in 2010. In 3rd Birthday, Aya's amnesia prevents her from knowing Kyle and Eve. Instead she lives with the other CTI members and they act as a ragtag family that care and support each other. As Aya's journey progresses she remembers both Eve and Kyle and unravels the secrets of her past witht he other CTI agents assistance.

The Warrior - Daniel Dollis and Rupert Broderick

Right or wrong, hell or high water, he will fight for the hero.
The Warrior: Daniel Dollis and Rupert BroderickDaniel, her partner from the New York Police Department in the first game, fits the bill here. Whenever Aya needs assistance, he's right there. He even risks his life to try and get her the special ammo she needs to fight the Ultimate Being. After the events in New York he makes a better attempt to raise his son, Ben. Daniel is seen at the opera with Ben, Maeda, and Aya at the end of Parasite Eve I (Tokita 1998). In two it is Rupert, when Aya goes to the building in L.A. she finds him in need of assitance. But he is the only one who comes to her call for back up. After injuries he is unable to come to her aid but still offers her technical support from MIST headquarters. He shows a deep anger when Baldwin betrays them and assures Aya that he will find him. At the end of Parasite Eve II, Rupert uses his connections to help Eve and Aya live together and creates an alterante background for them as siblings (Hirata 1999).

The Temptress - Melissa Pearce/Eve

Tries to lead the hero astray
The Temptress: Melissa Pearce Melissa Pearce the new Eve also acts as Aya's temptress. She tries to get Aya to join her cause of wiping out Humanity to allow the Neo–Mitochondria creatures to run forth and rule the world. Eve tries desperately to get Aya to see her perspective and continues to question why Aya should turn away when they have the same power. Eve tries to keep remininding Aya she's more than human and deserves more. As Aya continues to deny Eve she gets more violent and resentful and later tries to kill Aya (Tokita 1998). It is due to Melissa awakening as Eve that Aya gets her ability to use Mitochondria at all. But both of their abilities stem from the previous Eve, Maya.

The Innocents - Civilians

Who the Hero fights for
In one, Aya is fighting to save all of New York. In two she's moved to L.A. In 3rd Birthday, she's back in New York. It's safe to say she's doing this for the citizens and civillians of the world.

The Nightmare Creature - NMC, ANMC, and the Twisted

Creatures representive of the hero's flaws and insecurities.
The first game featured genetic mutations that happened in result of Melissa Pearce turning into Eve. Eve's mitochondria woke up the mitochondria of those around her and resulted in mutations or spontaneous combustion. This creataed the Neo–mitohcondria creatures (NMC) (Tokita 1998). In the second game, Aya's DNA was collected and used to create Aritificial Neo–mitocondria Creatures (ANMC). This results in the creatures attacking Dryfield, her clone, and a new Ultimate Being (Hirata 1999). In 3rd Birthday, creatures known as the twisted are created from the shattering of Aya's soul. They terrorize humanity and it is Aya's job to put a stop to them. The Highborn (the strongest twisted) are fragments of her memory (Toriyama 2010).

The Traitor - Eric "Hal" Baldwin and Hyde Bohr

Pretends to be for the hero but is really against them
The Traitor: Eric Baldwin and Hyde BohrIn two it was Hal who helped run experiments in Nevada using Aya's DNA to create the ANMCs. When he was found out he bailed from MIST and left the agents hanging. Eventually he was arrested (Hirata 1999). In 3rd Birthday it was Hyde who used Aya's ability to overdrive to get to ground zero. He searches for the mother of the Twisted and leads the attack on Aya's wedding and she shoots him several times to save Kyle and Eve. Both men pretend to be on Aya's side but both are merely using her for their own ends. In Baldwin's case it is to make the Aritificial Neo–mitochondria creatures, for Hyde it is to reach ground zero (Toriyama 2010).

The Dreamer - Eve Brea

A reminder of why the hero fights
The Dreamer: Eve BreaIn two, Aya met her clone Eve. At first, Eve doesn't seem to speak. She shows great skill over controlling the ANMCs but does not seem as though she actually likes to fight. She runs away from captivity in the shelter and controls a high level ANMC to fight Aya. When found Aya and Kyle find Eve in her room, Aya is positive that despite all the bad things that have happened to Eve she has a pure soul (Hirata 1999). Aya becomes determined to help her. After fighting the ultimate being in the shelter, Eve's ability to use parasite energy seems to have disappeared. Following the end of Parasite Eve II, Aya adopted Eve as a sister (Hirata 1999). In 3rd Birthday, she is looking for Eve and it becomes her driving force to stop the twisted (Toriyama 2010).

The Fool - Maeda Kunihiko

Comic relief, also reminds the hero the journey can be accomplished and that its for the innocents
The Fool: Maeda KunihikoOther than being an unbias fanboy, Maeda is a great scientist that offers protective charms to Aya as well as the ammo she needs to defeat the Ultimate Being in the first game (Tokita 1998). He is noted in the second game but not present. When the twisted start attacking New York, he's certain it has to do with Aya and he hops the first flight from Japan to see her. After CTI Headquarters is attacked, he takes Aya in and recaps what has been happening and offers his assistance. He supports her through one of the most difficult missions giving her information and reminding her that she is capable of doing anything (Toriyama 2010).

The Rebel - Kyle Madigan

Knowledgable, skilled, huge ego. In any other story, he'd be the hero.
The Rebel and Love Interest: Kyle MadiganKyle didn't appear until Parasite Eve II, but he was capable enough to defend himself. He posed as a Private Investigator seeking out information on the shelter near Dryfield. He has knowledge of what is going on in Dryfield and offers to team up with Aya now and again but often goes missing or tends to do his own thing. Near the end, it seems he's sided with No. 9 and he shoots Aya in the shoulder to prove his loyalty to him. Moments later he shoots No. 9 in the head telling him that the only thing he regretted was letting Aya and Eve get hurt. He apologizes to Aya, stating that he had to gather information on both sides to see where he really stood (Hirata 1999). In 3rd Birthday he is a High Born Twisted who knows Aya's past even though Aya does not (Toriyama 2010).
