Epic Triad
The Epic triad is made of three parts:
- The Hero (Kiryu Kazuma)
- The Sage (Fuma Shintaro)
- The Benign Force (Fighting)
The basic idea of the Epic Triad is how the hero, the sage, and the force that they both use are connected. In this case, I chose fighting as the benign force as fighting itself is neither good nor evil. Fighting is a large part of Kazuma's job as a debt collector and member of the Tojo Clan. I believe that Fuma taught Kazuma how to fight and defend himself. The first Yakuza game even states that Kazuma was captured by the triads, Fuma went in and saved him. Being as skilled as he was Kazuma was able to rise quickly within the Tojo clan and become the Dragon of Dojima.
As the dragon, Kazuma was required to issue beat downs and do whatever was necessary for his family. Although, he does not seem to enjoy it. As the games progress, we see Kazuma fighting to defend that which he loves. Because of this, I believe that the ability to fight can be the ability to protect. While on the other hand, that same ability makes Kazuma the target of many. The Triads for instance wanted him dead in two of four of the games. Kazuma's pure prowess in battle makes him a valuable ally but a dangerous enemy.
However, despite being amazingly strong, Kazuma prefers a simple life. If he didn't have too, he wouldn't fight. In fact, there are very few instances when he throws around his power and the few times he does, is usually to save someone. That aside, being a strong fighter helps to make up the Yakuza world, as we see that Kazuma can get Majima to do almost anything as long as Kazuma can best him in battle.
